There has been a lot of change in attitude towards persons with disabilities from the past till date. A major problem here is that there is lack of sufficient literature on the disabled. In the 16th Century, eminent leaders though that disabled people were under evil influence of spirits. The disabled were subjected to mental and physical torture. It is shocking to know that even in the 19th century the advocates of the social Darwinism were against the government help to the disabled people. They argued that survival of fittest did not support helping the “unfit” of the society.
